The role of the Export Guarantees Advisory Council

The Export Guarantees Advisory Council is a statutory body which advises the Secretary of State on UK Export Finance’s operations, with a specific duty to provide advice about the provision of reinsurance to the private sector.

EGAC primarily provides advice to the Department and its ministers on the policies it applies when doing business including:

  • environmental impacts and human rights;
  • sustainable lending,
  • bribery and corruption: and
  • disclosure ( freedom of information).

What are non-departmental public bodies?

There are three types of non-departmental public bodies (NDPBs):

  • Executive bodies: which carry out a wide range of operational and regulatory functions, various scientific and cultural activities and some commercial or semi-commercial activities.
  • Advisory bodies: which are usually composed of a group of experts in a particular sphere who advise the government on a single issue.
  • Tribunals: which have a judicial or quasi-judicial function.
