Equality and diversity

This page includes our Equality and Diversity plans for 2012, and our existing Equality Scheme 2010 – 2013, which provides a general statement of the Department’s equality and diversity policy and objectives.

As part of the Equality Act 2010, the Equality Duty (ED) requires public sector organisations to comply with specific duties to demonstrate that they have ‘due regard’ for the three main aims of the Act (eliminate unlawful discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations).

There are two public sector duties and these are:

  • Publish Equality and Diversity information to show compliance with the ED, at least annually starting in January 2012; and
  • Set and publish one or more specific and measureable equality objectives, at least every four years, by April 2012.

The full range of Equality and Diversity information about the Department can be down loaded from the right hand side of this page.
