Management structure

The Chief Executive is responsible for all our activities as the Department’s Accounting Officer, and is supported by the Executive Committee and the Management Board.

The Executive Committee, which is our senior policy-making body, is responsible for advising the Chief Executive on the management of our business. It advises, among other things, on corporate governance, the allocation of financial and human resources, operational decision making and organisational performance. It usually meets fortnightly and typically has between six and 10 items on each agenda. You can download the Executive Committee organisation chart from the right hand side of this page.

The Management Board is accountable to the Secretary of State. It exercises oversight of the Chief Executive and the Executive Committee, monitors the application of good governance, ensures our strategic goals are tested and examined, advises on policies and strategies, assesses and monitors performance and enterprise-wide risk, recommends accounting policies, and approves the annual review and resource accounts. It meets once a month, typically with a similar number of items on the agenda as the Executive Committee.

The Export Guarantees Advisory Council is appointed by ECGD's ministers to provide advice to them on ECGD matters. In practice, the Council focuses on the principles that should guide our operations, in particular those about environmental impacts, anti-bribery & corruption, sustainability and disclosure.

How we make decisions

We have a committee structure for advising on operational decision-making.  Committees, rather than individuals, advise the decision-taker, who may be the Accounting Officer or someone delegated by him.
