ECGD Information Asset Register
What is an Information Asset Register?
The creation of an information asset register ("IAR") is one of a series of Government initiatives designed to facilitate greater openness in public life.
The Government's "IAR" is a register of unpublished information holdings. "Information holdings" are information or collections of information which are, held by the Government (either electronically or in hardcopy), which have (usually) not been published or made publicly available.
The IAR does not provide direct access to the information holdings themselves. It is a means of alerting the public to the existence of the unpublished information and who to contact in order to access it.
The Government's Information Asset Register
The Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) has responsibility for the development and co-ordination of the Government's IAR. Each Government Department makes those of its records which are on the IAR available on the Office of Public Sector Information Inforoute (external site). Inforoute is designed to serve as a single point of access for the public to identify:
- the unpublished information which the Government holds;
- the Government Department which holds it;
- the usefulness of that information; and
- a contact to whom requests for that information can be made.
